International Flights to Myanmar
Still wondering how to get into Myanmar? After years of isolation, Myanmar has finally reopened its door to outside world, revealing its rich culture and fabulous scenery to millions of visitors. It’s not as convenient to travel to Myanmar as its neighboring countries, but it doesn’t mean you will get troubles finding your way to Myanmar.
Overland crossing border is limited for travelers, so most people arrive in Myanmar by airplane.
Currently, there are three international airports in Myanmar:
- Yangon International Airport (RGN)
- Mandalay International Airport (MDL)
- Naypyidaw International Airport (NYT)
and a fourth- Hanthawaddy International Airport still under construction.
Myanmar is now reachable by direct flights from many countries, including:
- Eastern Asia: China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea
- Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam
- Other countries: India, Bangladesh, Qatar, UAE, and Germany
Myanmar Airways International Co., Ltd., a privately owned airline headquartered in Yangon, is the major airline operating international services to destinations mainly in Southeast Asia. Other region airlines also provide limited service in and out of the country.

1. YANGON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (RGN)
Yangon International Airport, located 15 kilometers north of downtown Yangon, is the primary and busiest international airport of Myanmar. It has three main terminals, one domestic and two international. The airport’s old terminal is used exclusive for domestic flights, and the new terminals handle with international flights to Myanmar. The international terminal (T1 and T2) have modern facilities, Visa- and Master Card-ready ATMs and pre-pay mobile SIM cards sales counters.

2. MANDALAY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MDL)
Mandalay International Airport is the largest and the most modern airport in the country. It is served by an increasing number of direct international flights to Myanmar. Mandalay International Airport was extensively renovated in 2015, and is up to modern standards with money exchange, and Visa and MasterCard ATM facilities.

Besides the above airport of Yangon and Mandalay, you should note about Naypyidaw International Airport, which may not be convenient for traveling, but getting to the capital of Myanmar, and its surroundings. Naypyidaw International Airport is located 16 kilometers southeast of Naypyidaw. The ground floor of the two-story building is for arrivals and the first floor is for departure, the West Hall is for domestic travelers, and the North and East Hall is for international travelers. At that time, only Bangkok Airways operates 3 non-stop flights per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) – Naypyidaw with 70-seater ATR72 aircraft.
Most international flights to Myanmar arrive at Yangon International Airport, but you can also fly into Mandalay International Airport. There is lack of direct flights to Myanmar especially from European countries, but it doesn’t mean you will face many difficulties to get to the ‘Golden Land’. You will have to transit by Thailand, China or Singapore (see above).
